Re: TK-5710 software comparison to XTL5000 radio
Jim, I have had 4 TK-5810's at my disposal for a couple of years now. In this period of time I have been able to mull over the features of the radio. My biggest gripe with this radio is the 7 second turn on time. Moto's XTL5000 O5 control head isn't any better at 8 seconds, although the XTL5000 with...

Re: Firmware upgrade for MDC1200 for a TK-7180
From within the programming software you must enable firmware programming. Once you write that feature change to the radio you need to power down the radio and power it up while holding down the correct firmware programming key, the 180 series mobile key escapes me at the moment. This will put the r...

Re: Dead tk-880
There is no internal fuse in the 880. It is likely that the radio is fryed. Find a local Kenwood dealer as they will probably be able to further diagnose.

Re: tk-790 tk-890 repeater setup programming
You are right. This configuration acts as a cross band repeater and will only work with the two channels defined in the repeater channel list.

Re: 690 with P25 VHF radio?
Essentially the the TK-5710 is the same looking radio as its analog counterpart (TK-790). I haven't tried it personally but I would assume that it wouldn't work.

Ameradio.com had firmware last I knew. If you purchased the FPU it should have contained the "Firmware Programming Software". Good luck.

how old are the radios? When trying to program the radio does the software tell you that some features are not available (like FleetSync)?

Re: TK 790/890 Dual band
nah...you can plug a speaker into both of the heads and have stereo if you want. I believe there is a mod that has to be done to that head in order for it to work. Not having the service manual in front of me I don't want to mislead you, but I believe that is your problem.

Re: Kenwood TK-2170/3170 Field Programming Option
In order to enable the "Field Programming" there is a resistor change that has to be done. Whether it is adding a resistor or moving a resistor I cannot remember. But it was a fairly easy mod.

Re: 90 series and 5710/5810 compatible for dual band?
Sorry...but dual band does not appear as an option in the FPU for a 5810/5710. Go figure...they had a good thing going with the 90 series mobiles and they failed to apply it to their new stuff.
