Re: Thales / Racal owners on here?

I've owned the "saber" looking one (forget the model # but it's the one that's commonly surplus'd). Nice radio, wish I had another.

Can't wait to own a Liberty... ever since I've had the chance to demo one I don't think I'd buy an XTS again.

Re: KPG-36 and TK-2180 ???

Get a real Kenwood cable... the aftermarkets do generally tend to work OK, but - some get picky and won't program certain radios. I have a knock-off and an OEM at work, and the knock off will, for example, read and write 3160s all day long, but barfs up errors on 3170s or 3173s, or even 3200s. It's ...

TK-3212

I just got several of these units in today at work that I had ordered as Demo units as they are a new product. So far so good... no LTR, but they do have FleetSync. Built on the 2200/3200 chasis... same feel and form factor except for the addition of the orange LCD and 4 button keypad (or as Kenwood...

Re: Kenwood Nx800 Digital?

I don't believe (yet) that there's a way around it. If you wish, some recent versions of Kenwood programming software will let you overwrite the radio's current image without the need of a password - but you loose any data that's in the radio.

Re: TK-380 signaling question

The TK-3180 is a full sized radio. It's about the most top-of-the-line you can go with Kenwood without going P25.

You're probably thinking of the TK-3173.

Re: EFJ5100 Problems

I tweaked with the radio's internal and external mic gain, same thing, crappy audio. Almost sounds like you're transmitting FM on an AM frequency... over-distorted. Again when I press the PTT the radio goes weird sometimes too - it goes into emergency, or just switches channels. I'm thinking possibl...

Re: EFJ5100 Problems

How much is a new case from EFJ?

When I talk far away from the mic I can hear my voice OK, it is just really quiet. But when I get up on the mic, or at "normal" distance, is when it starts to get crappy.

EFJ5100 Problems

I recently aquired a UHF EFJ5100 Model 242-5132-410-DA1 Anyways, the audio on it is REALLY scratchy, kinda like it is off freq. actually (it's on frequency just fine). Also, when I PTT, the radio kind of goes stupid sometimes. The display flashes to "Scan Off", "Emergency" and ra...

Kenwood LTR portable recommendation?

The radio shop I am soon to be hired for (part time) owns and operates a rather large LTR UHF system (450-470). Since the majority of the system portables and mobiles are all Kenwood, I'd like to take the plunge into their commercial equipment. I'm more familiar with Motorola radios than Kenwood, so...

Re: VX-P920

Thanks for the reply.

The Department I work for ended up buying a few, and ended up getting it programmed. I'll save the part number for future reference.

Thanks!

Re: vertex vx-177

I have one of these, and it will not go above 470MHz, either via the front keypad or the Windows software. It still will not go over if you MARS/CAP mod. the unit.

Re: VX-P920

It's neat, and suprisingly rugged for Vertex stuff (never was a huge fan, but this radio is OK) It's got a test channel (analog) and a few weather frequencies but that's it. I was hoping to compare the DSP audio to my 5k's or to my XTL, but as stated I don't have any software to program it yet. I've...

VX-P920

Does anyone have the Vertex Part #. for the P929 portable? I just snagged one of these at a local pawn shop, and I'm unfamiliar with the programming of Vertex Standard equiptment. Just looking for the Vertex P/N, not asking for software...

Opinoins on VX160 and VX410

I've got a UHF VX-160 coming to me, and I've never used one before. It looks pretty cool. I've also been wanting the VX-410.

Can anyone provide any "Hi-Rez" pics of any? I can only seem to find stock photos of the '410, but so far I'm liking the features and looks of it.

If none of the above are prefferrable in the outcome, Cimarron makes some great aftermarket boards.
