Re: 5300 Control Head

Oh well... It's too bad since the 900 radios are available pretty cheaply.

Thanks for saving me the time and money of trying it!

5300 Control Head

Can the control head from a 242-9653 or 242-9655 (900 MHz radios) be used on a 5300? They look identically outwardly.

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

I finally had success in updating both radios. Just in case it helps someone else in the future, here is what it took. HHC Radio (1.16.1 to 1.30.15): First update the DSP using an older version of PC Configure (I used 1.22.00.04); the application and boot code can then be updated using PCC 1.28.00.0...

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

Wow- this is the most frustrating radio programming experience I've ever had! IS: You're correct about the HHC radio (currently v 1.16.1)- I'm trying to get it to 1.30.15. From reading the PCC 1.28.0.8 help file, (as confusingly and poorly written as some of it is...) it does look like PCC 1.22.0 is...

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

Thanks to a couple people on another list and a little research, here's where I'm at: I'm using the EFJ -001 RPI. I know that both radios can be placed into the code update mode, the Version Info and the Options can be read from both radios using PCC 1.28.00.08, that version of PCC will read/write t...

Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

I'm trying to update the firmware on a pair of 5300 radios- a dash mount and an HHC. I don't have the shorting plug (023-5300-010), but found a reference that the plug shorts mic pins 3 & 7. These are the left most pins on the mic jack (when looking at it head on) on the lower two rows. Pin 3 is...

Re: Disassembly of 5300 Control Head

Sometimes things are too simple... I had the head apart to change out the channel selector, so I figured I'd change the buttons at the same time. I found the install manual on the web that says to simply pull out the existing buttons with a pair of pliers- sure enough, they come out with a gentle tug.

Disassembly of 5300 Control Head

I want to change the buttons on a 5300 control head, but I can't figure out how to get the two sandwiched circuit boards out. It seems to be hung up on the mic connector. Anybody done this before?

Re: RPI for 5300

I.S.:

Thanks for the info.

Is there any down side to using the -001 with a single core processor?

RPI for 5300

The EFJ Accessories catalog shows 023-5300-000 as the RPI for PC Configure and 023-5300-001 for PC Tune. Can either software be run on either RPI or are they actually different somehow and PC Tune won't run on a 023-5300-000? (I see that the USB programming cable, 023-5300-980, won't work with PC Tu...
