Re: Program F121 to scan

Patrick, I haven't played with that particular radio, but I am going to assume it does a couple things similar to my Icom 320. It was set up by the selling dealer to scan any of 10 memories. Button P0 turns the scan on and off Button P1 adds/removes the channel currently chosen to/from the scan list...

Re: Need help with VXR-1000V to a VX-3000V

OK, first let's see if I understand what you have and are trying to do. The VXR-1000V is a mobile crossband repeater http://www.omni-west.com/images/vxr1000lg.jpg It is designed to provide extended handheld (HT) coverage by repeating transmissions in both directions through your high power mobile ra...

Re: Kenwood G series

I think (that's a dangerous phrase by the way :D ) the main difference in adding the "g" was narrowband, but not the only difference. Here is an excerpt I found from when the "g" series was introduced. From http://www.aaradio.com.au/kenwoodhh.htm Kenwood "G" Series Radi...

Re: ICOM F121 getting the software to connect and read the radio

... I'm wondering if the setup doesn't like my USB to SERIAL DB9 com port vs a built in serial com port. I took the radio to another shop using there cable and software and worked fine. my only other thought is that the cable I purchased has something wrong with it. I'm betting that is the problem....

Re: ICOM F121 getting the software to connect and read the radio

Its been a year or more since I programmed a 121, but I don't recall any extra steps. The biggest problem I had was the software seemed to be written by someone who knew what they were doing but couldn't explain it to someone else. Kind of like some people giving driving directions If you have been ...

Re: Kenwood TK-272G

Can this radio be programmed to work the same a pager? Sort of. A page function is available that a 2 tone signal will set off. We set ours with one memory programmed to our dispatch frequency, but the speaker is silent until triggered by a 2 tone page alert. Unfortunately, unless I have just faile...

Uniden VHF HT's

A neighbor retired and closed his construction business. At the auction I bought his radio system. What I really wanted was the power supply, but I got the rest of it. What I need to know now is what I have! I have 3 handhelds, all Uniden's. 1) APH 52D with a keypad and 2) FPH 516E's. I also have th...

Re: CTCSS

Rather than rewrite stuff, here is some info from Wikipedia on CTCSS (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CTCSS) : In telecommunications, Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System or CTCSS is a circuit that is used to reduce the annoyance of listening to other users on a shared two-way radio communications...

What is your use?

What are you using them for? If it is non-commercial you can get your amateur licenses and do all kinds of things. BUT everyone involved will need to get their own license. It isn't difficult, just demonstrate some technical knowledge and familiarity with the regulations. Check out http://www.hello-...

Lookslike he may have got it

I am not sure about the UHF part, that may come from looking at the shots of the boards, but the radio definitely resembles a Vertex Standard FTL series. See:

but since you said they were not a Kenwood shop they might not have one handy. Did they try a new microphone?

Yaesu FT-1500M

I recently went to a hamfest and sold my old Kenwood TM-241a and bought a Yaesu FT-1500M . All I can say is programming a Kenwood is sure different than programming a Yaesu. It is supposed to have a broadband receiver so I can use it to monitor my EMS/Fire dispatch frequency. But it won't tune above...

MURS, FRS, GMRS ... ???

I fell asleep during some exciting TV show and now I'm wide awake and can't sleep, so I'm browsing old posts on here. This thread mentioned MURS and GMRS, plus others talked about FMRS and possibly other alphabet labeled services. I know there are similarities and differences, such as some radios ar...
