Where is the internal 5 volt regulator located in the portable? I have SMT equipment but I don't have a schematic. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Its for programming 88XX and 87XX series radios... probbally not something you want to do.

The radio's model number is the last four digits ie 242-9653 it would be referred to as a 96XX model. I'm not sure that the Challenger interface box will work with that model... some of the later model Johnsons need a newer box and cable. I will have to research this...

Pins 13 and 14 are used for external spkr. if you want the internal spkr put a jumper in pins 9 and 12. Good Luck,

I'm looking seriously at one of these portables. Does anyone have one? If so what do you think of it. Also can it be controlled by Trunker so I can use it with a PC to monitor trunktraffic? Thanks,

Do you mean the channel elements? If so look and see what the fundamentals are on the channel elements (aka TCXO) then take a calculator and divide your output freq of each radio into the fundamental and see if the radios are using the same math to make the output freq.... That is my best suggestion.
