Re: Bendix/King and VHF question
If you decide you are eligible for a Business license there is a wide variety of equipment available that may be more attractive than the BK radios. One issue with the BK units will be to find a service shop in your area that can program them for you. Parts and service can be an issue since BK radio...

Re: Bendix/King and VHF question
So if I'm unable to use the BKs and they work in VHF who uses them (legally). I'm not opposed to getting a license if that’s what it takes. The next question is if the license is bought under a business is that good? I check out the MURS and they look nice. But the BKs really fit the mold for what ...

Re: Bendix/King and VHF question
The only way you can use VHF frequencies for your purpose is on the MURS channels which have a 1W and narrow band restriction on the 151 MHz channels and 2W on the 154 MHz channels. There seems to be a lack of interest by manufacturers in MURS radios since most now seem to be out of production. The ...

Re: Bendix/King and VHF question
The Bendix King radios are not approved and do not meet standards for MURS use so there is no way they can be legally used for your purposes.
Repeaters are not permitted for MURS use.

Re: Newbie, with many questions!
Before you worry about programming them, what type of license do you have, under Canadian regulations, that would allow you to use a VHF frequency??
For UHF, does Canada have the equivalent of GMRS that you could obtain a license for?

Check the jumpers (Jp1001-1004) near the microprocessor.
On the regular, unmodified, US model, I believe that 1 and 4 should be in and 2 and 3 open. Not sure about 5 and 6. For more info check the MARS/Cap modification info on the mods.dk website.

Re: Radio Frequency qestions.
GMRS is the replacement for Class A CB. GMRS has 8 exclusive channels every 25kHz from 462.575 to 462.750 plus repeater input channels 5 MHz higher. Simplex is also allowed on 7 channels shared with FRS from 462.5625 to 462.7125 limited to 5W for mobiles and low power base stations only. Power limit...

Re: 70-340A tuning
I do not have details on that particular unit but you can never align a receiver with a strong signal from a nearby transmitter. You must use a signal generator adjusted to produce a signal below the threshold of limiting (less than full quieting). As you progress with the alignment you must continu...

Re: GMRS questions....
If you are in West Virginia you need to be sure you are not in the "quiet zone" per 47CFR1.924 Sec. 1.924 Quiet zones. Areas implicated by this paragraph are those in which it is necessary to restrict radiation so as to minimize possible impact on the operations of radio astronomy or other...

Re: Who is SUPPOSED to be able to program radios ?
My thoughts were the same as yours and I sent him an email discussing the implications of "do it yourself" programming. But, since the FCC no longer requires a licensed or certified technician to service Part 90 radios, it is left up to the licensee to determine who is qualified to do the ...

You will need to get it from the local Kenwood dealer you get your radios from. Kenwood software is not sold on-line but local dealers can sell it to customers at their discretion.

Re: Programming Motorola HT 1000 radios
Your first step is to obtain a MOL (Motorola On Line) account at http://businessonline.motorola.com but Motorola puts up many roadblocks to end users that want to buy software. It may be worthwhile to call them first: 800 814-0601. Have you talked to your radio service people to be aware what you ar...

Re: HELP: SPX-2550 (SL70)
I am familiar with the SP-2550 but I know nothing about the SPX-2550. If it is the same as the SL-70 I know a little about the version made by Maxon but sold by GE in the US as the "Monogram". The radio does cover 136-174 but only with realignment to operate in about a 7 MHz bandwidth or u...

Re: What did I buy? Kenwood TK-272G-2
The -2 indicates 136-150 bandsplit.
The G-1 is 150-174. The "G' will do narrow band on the existing 15kHz VHF channels but the synthesizer can not do the new FCC 7.5kHz split channels.

If there is no local source, Mouser has the full line of Molex products and no minimum order.
