Re: Tk-272G Not Decoding DPL
Don't you just love intermittent problems? I wish it would just break and stay broke. I don't have a clue, but anytime I get an intermittent problem with an HT it usually involves the antenna. Is it possible the antenna or connection has a problem and it isn't getting enough signal?
Re: VX-4204
I've not stumbled across a pin-out yet. Did find a few places with service manuals for sale, which might have what you want. If you go to http://www.service-docs.com/store/catalogue.php?cat=250&shop=1 you can purchase and download a manual, while RFWHIZ.com has one o a CD available http://www.rf...

Who is SUPPOSED to be able to program radios ?
IT manager Rob has been asking about programing radios for his county. At the risk of having rotten fruit tossed my way ... and I know it is one of those things I should be able to find myself ... what are the current regs about programming? Showing my age, I remember when the FCC had strict regs ab...

Rob,
I think you are going to have to go through Motorola for that. Motorola seems to consider that very proprietary.

My new laptop doesn't have a serial port ... NOW what do I d
I have CSF100S software in my desktop computer to program Icom radios. I splurged and bought me a new laptop with XP so I could use it to program mobiles easier, etc. Only problem ... it doesn't have a serial port!
Is there a USB cable to use?

Re: VX-P920
I don't have your answer, but looks like a very interesting radio. I stumbled across Missouri Radio's web site and it has several different models of the VX-929 shown. VHF, UHF, Intrinsically Safe (WOW! Are they proud of those models!).
I suspect you are going to need to talk to a dealer.

Re: Problems programming VX2500
I've never used Yaesu programming, but is this a computer error message or a radio error message? Based on my experience with Kenwood programming it may be you don't have the radio properly set in the program. it may be looking for a VX-4000 and finding a VX-2500. First thing I'd do is review my set...

What did I buy? Kenwood TK-272G-2
I have a couple TK-272g-1 handhelds, one I own and one provided by local volunteer fire department. I found a couple on sale on ebay I bought (I thought) reasonably. When I looked at the model tag I found they are TK-272g-2 radios. I assume the -1 and -2 are significant and am wondering if they will...

Re: Newbie for this radio Kenwood TK-790H
Do you have a license for the use of this radio? My suggestion with any one lacking experience with 2-way radios is find a good dealer and work with them. Any savings from going cheap can quickly be eaten up by mistakes. Go find a good commercial 2-way dealer and listen to him.

Re: Using a vhf antenna on a low band portable
Can you? Sure! SHOULD you? Probably not. Your antenna will not match the transmitting frequency of your radio, resulting in an impedance mis-match.
Best case scenario: It works great
Worst case scenario: It damages the radio
Most likely scenario: It works ... sort of ... but not very well

Motorola buying Vertex ?

I personally believe the most important words...

Ummm...you do realize that you can't legally do both at the same time? You can set it up for amateur or fire dept, but both are not permitted ... except possibly in an emergency. I think this becomes a gray area then.

Anybody hae experience with a battery conditioner?
As the local VFD "radio guy" I have been given the responsibility for care and feeding of about 30 Kenwood TK-272g handheld radios. It's been 2-3 years since we got them and suddenly we had an epidemic of battery failures. I now have a box full of ni-cad radio batteries to do something wit...
