Re: repeated beeping on older 5317

oops. I mispoke, It is a hc08 cpu firmware version 11.11 I've got several logic boards that don't have any file fmt 0.0 or dsp 0.0 loaded. These beep once which is the HC08 coming up but with nothing loaded to boot the dsp it stops there. Does anyone have deep in their old hard disc boot, firmware, ...

repeated beeping on older 5317

I'm trying to repair an old Version 1 radio (With the HC 11 processor) When I power it up I get a constant beep beep beep. If I switch to firmware update mode and power up the rate of the beeping slows down. The display never gets past the version number for the display. Anyone seen this or have som...

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

Is there a source for code files for updating an old version 1 radio from 1.10.0 to a later version? I have the .hex loader file but none of the .out files - thanks in advance for any direction you can give me.

53xx Logic board swaping. cycle powr error.

This is a puzzle. I seem to have created a second radio with the cycle powr error. I took a working 800 Mhz radio and removed the logic board plopped it into a 5317 that had a dead logic board and it gave me the error message. I used tune to turn it into a VHF board and it gave me the error about ha...

Re: 5100 Series Board Swap Question

I know this is a really old thread but I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this. What boards if any can you swap. I know you can use tune to change the band and Obviously the RF board has to be changed but is either the front panel or the bottom logic board "universal" ? I finally print...

Tune Rev 3 that doesn't crash.

I've been using tune version 2 (and 1 on the old old radios) and have no problems. I'm getting more version 4 and 6 radios and have tried to use Tune ver 3. It loads and will do one thing (Such as Transmitter output) then it crashes everytime. I'm using an old laptop with Windoze XP. Any ideas? Or v...

Re: High Power VHF 5300 136-146 band

I believe you run tune read all the parameters. (Save them) then select band and instead of VHF High or VHF Low you select VHF. I don't expect it will work perfectly at the band edges but in my one experiment it worked fine. I don't have the tools password either but it seems like they do a lot of w...

Re: 5300ES V6 with remote.

There is a ribbon cable that is has a surface mounted connector. I've seen these fail (Need resoldering) so it might be as simple as an open connection.

800 MHz is not of much interest to me but there are Volunteer Fire Department guys that might love one.

Re: Ancient 5100 questions!

I know there are a lot of people who are obsessed with version 4 being better then 3 which is better then 2 and onto 1 but the only difference I see are different CPUs and more or less ram. Operationally they seem like Motorola clones (Nothing wrong with that) and even more so on the 5100. Version 6...

Re: any active EFJ users left?

To keep the thread alive. A big yes! I'm very active with refurbing 5100, 5317 & 18s. Since EF Johnson went kinda kerput I've been getting some work fixing them. I mostly sell ones that I refurbish (Clean, test, repair *make cables and find microphones) I reverse engineered a little circuit boar...

Re: Ancient 5100 questions!

I'm also very interested in old flash files. I've got DSP firmware for the Version one but nothing for the system. I've got some 1.10.x radios that have some firmware problems. I was told there was a 1.32.11 but its a special version meant for a state. I assume this is just some trunking thing (Whic...

Re: EFJ 242-5326-271 programming cable

I've designed a little circuit for programming the 5300 which lets you do either firmware updates or lets you program the radio with PCC. I'm waiting on a PCB place to deliver some boards but I'm planning on selling them for $50 to start with. Check out refurbatron on facebook for a pix of the proto...

53SL Questions

I picked up my first of this series. I have lots of info on the 5300 (17 and 18) but zilch on the 53SL. The first thing I notice is that power up seems to click along ok then.... CYCLE POWR shows on the display and seems to stay that way. (Cycling power doesn't change anything) Anyone with anything ...

Re: Putting 5300 into Code Update Mode

Is there someplace to find .out files for version one radios? I have some arm based radios with control 1.10.0 and DSP 0.1.23 and for what its worth file fmt 5.5 and hw 0.1.2

I see .hex files in the /dsp/5300 directory. Is that something that needs to be proccessed into the .out file somehow?
