That's the exact same message I kept getting.

I didn't realize that I couldn't read/write with software for that particular radio.

So I had to program it manually through the radio.

You don't have to put the radio into "program mode" so to speak to program with software.

You just have to plug in the cable and "read" the radio with the software.

Are you able to do this?

Which menus can't you access? The ones on the software? Have you tried a com-port test?

Have you tried to read the radio with software? Maybe there's a jumper in the radio, but I'm not sure.

I looked through my programming instructions, but it didn't mention the problem of not being able to put the radio into programming mode.

Sorry.

RG-8 is not even going to cut it, much less RG-8X. Do as Raymond stated and get LMR400 or RG213. Even better would be hardline, but that gets expensive. You're probably only getting a watt or two out of your antenna due to only having 5 watts coming out of the transmitter, so that RG-58 at 100 feet ...

25 feet isn't that tall/high. I have a site here that is around 50 feet above sea level (around 25 feet AAT). We only get about 6-8 miles for portables (depending on terrain). As long as we're in the open, we're fine, but if we're in a 'hole' or a building, we have have problems getting back to the ...

He's basically saying that there has been no activity since last year. It;s not like Batlabs here and the "New To Radio" forum doesn't get as many posts as the others.

You can also program out of band, but I'm not sure how well it performs. I don't think it's type accepted for use in the US, but HAMs shouldn't have a problem...

You can't program the TK-278 with software. It's programmed through the key pad on the front... Press the 'light' key and the 'Dial' key at the same time while turning the radio on to put it in program mode. You will see "Sel" on the display. Now press the "TA" and "CH 1&quo...
