Howard - it looks like a Vertex FTL-7011 UHF conventional radio or similar.
There is usually a model/sn tag on the (radio facing you) right side towards
the back on the heat sink. Sometimes they get stripped off.

I am not sure about the UHF part, that may come from looking at the shots of the boards, but the radio definitely resembles a Vertex Standard FTL series. See:

I don't know much about 2-way radios but I'm over 50 and can't remember not having one around. Everything from Buddy and Citi-fone to Icom and Kenwood.

That is a 99 channel FTL-2011, VHF high band, 40 watts 136-160MHz A version or 148-174 MHz B version.

Oops 148 to 174 should read as the C version but either way all of the FTL-2011's I have come across were the 148 to 174 models.
