99ch FTL-1011 on 10 meters?

Post by N3CHU »

Hi all, Has anyone ever put a 99ch FTL-1011 on ten meters before? I have never been able to master the hexing of the Vertex software. Thank you. Davie n 3 c h u at atlanticbb dot net

I could help you with some models as I have done the 4, 12 and 24 channel radios to 6 meters by hexediting and fixing the codeplugs checksum for the 4 channel 12 and 24 channel radios but I cannot get a 99 channel with alpha head to program at all. Going to 10 meters should be similar.

I have tried both a 99 channel FTL1011 and FTL2011 and all I get is a incompatible head error message of some kind.

Any ideas on why the 99 channels are so hard to program ?

I am using CE-7 for the 99 channels and CE-5 for the others and the same RS-232 programming cable.

If you had a 99 channel default codeplug made up that you could e-mail me that is loaded with default frequencies of 29.7 MHz I could probably hexedit them to valid 10 meter channels and fix the checksum so that the CE-7 software can take the new frequencies.

Mike , thanks for your reply. I cant even save a file to a floppy. Just cant figure out how to work the vertex software. I've done some Mot, kenwood , midland stuff but cant seem to get around in the Vertex stuff. I even used Windows "word" to do an MT1000 lowband but no luck on vertex. also most of my FTLs are LB high split for 6 M and was hopeing to get a low split this summer at a Hamfest for 10FM. If I could save a codeplug to a floppy I might be able to figure it out, maybe thats why they call it amatuer radio. Davie n3chuat atlanticbb dot net

Dave,

The 99 channel software CE-7 seems to be a major POS program from my experience.

As I mentioned I have only had success with the 4/12/24 channel CE-5 and even this is a PITA.

I was working on converting the 99 channel high band radio and head over to 220MHz but now with my software problems I am going another route and scrapping the 99 channel head and building up my own external direct entry control head for 220.

About a year ago It got so frustrating with the CE-5 software and a old 4 channel head, with having to hexedit in my ham frequencies and then fixing the checksum error.

These problems with CE-5 along with having to use an old 486 PC were the final straw that I finally built up an external LCD control head with a 16 key Kepad, controlled by a PIC 16F876A processor.

The PIC writes to the PLL directly so I don't have to resort to the old 486 PC software anymore.

I now have my 6 meter FTL-1011 running with my direct entry control head with re-programmable on the fly memory channels, user scan, one touch repeater offsets of .5, 1.0 and 1.7 MHz or simplex, and user CTCSS on the fly.

I'm in the process of converting my code over for 10 meters and 220 Mhz so I never have to use the 99 channel head again.

Mike, the CE-5 ver. 3.0 will go all the way to 900 or so with no mods.Great on the pic mods and if you live in WVA We might know each other. Davie

Northern Arizona,

I have heard about version 3.0 of CE-5 but I have never found it.

I'm wondering if there is an earlier version of CE-7 for these 99 ch radios that works better than VS3.3.

Yes I have done it, but in involves changing the VCO in the unit. I obtained them right from Vertex directly. You will have to of course align the receiver etc.
I did it to a 4 channel FTL-1011H and worked fine.

Part number CA0632001 (29.7 - 39 Mhz VCO ) 25 Khz spacing.

It is very tricky removing the original VCO, so I would suggest you get an expert to do this or better still have a good soldering work station and tools.
