You are on the right track.

If you got one of the surplus AN/PRC-127's, you got one digital zone and one analog zone. You can program those to an extent, like putting in a single repeat or simplex channel, but you can't add a zone, or do any of the neater features.

For that, you need a programming cable, any decent computer, and the pcc you mentioned. You can't 'lose' options as far as I can tell, you can poll the radio to see whats' in it, but it doesn't appear to let you change them.

hard to find anything out about these radios, but I'd rather have a 5100 than an XTS5k.

Please note that asking for firmware, programming software, etc here will result in you having your account removed.

Please refrain from this in the future. Contact an authorized dealer as they have the ability to help you out.

Alex,

I guess I'm confused. I didn't think he asked for any firmware or software - at least that's how I read his post. He has everything he needs, it just isn't working. Or, did I miss something???

I have seen the radios get very touchy as to the data speed you try programming the radio at. If your getting the error while trying to read the radio, try different speeds. I have some radios
that want the rate at 9600 and others that want it higher.

As I have a number of different radios and versions of software they require, I have had to put a label on each of them with the version and speed they like.

If you have to use 9600 baud then you have some of their older radios (like the REV 4 mobile) that only communicated at 9600. All of their newer ones request you use 19200 at a min.
The newer radios won't recognize 9600 at all, as if you set PCC to 9600 it defaults to looking for an older model.
