Midland 70-1340b Ground issue?

Post by trophyxl »

Hi,

I'm trying to fix my friends Midland 70-1340b. Its powered by a cigarette adapter so the neg(-) from the lighter adapter goes to pin 7 of the plug and the positive goes to pin 9. The problem (or might just be normal operation but i dont think so) is that the radio will only power on if its grounded to the chassis of the truck. (i.e in its mounting bracket thats mounted with tapping screws to the metal floor boards). Is it normal to have to ground the housing of the radio? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the ground path is making it from the cig lighter plug into the radio. Can you open it up and use an ohmeter to check the ground path?
