GE Rangr intermittant

Post by redbird »

I have a 47 mHz Rangr that is intermittant. Sometimes when I turn it on it works normal and sometimes all digit segments on display are on, and dim and flickering. Nothing works. Is this VCO unlock? What could cause this?

What kind of control head do you have?

VCO out of lock should not cause what you are describing no matter
what... Sounds like a flaky control head or bad control cable...

It is the S-550 head. It is also a recent install, so everything is clean and tight on the wiring.

Depending on the age of the head, you could also run into a problem
with the older ones having a dead battery. The battery is a computer
style battery mounted behind the verticle board inside the head. If the
head has this battery, it will do flaky things. I do know the scan will go
dead until you replace the battery.

The newer versions of this head don't have the batteries.

I would look for bad connections on both the control cables and the
internal plug in board.
