Ericsson Panther 500P VHF Opinions

Post by fineshot1 »

Found some of these at work(boxed up in storage)and was wondering about the reliability and ruggedness of these radios. Any opinions welcome....

fineshot1,
I have one of these and they are very nice radios.
They are very rugged. Mine has been very reliable also.
The audio is very loud and clear. Typical good GE quality.
I'd grab some if you can......

OK - thanks for that opinion.

I have the program software, ge rib & cable. I cannot get this unit to scan correctly. I have 13 channels programed some with & without CG but even though some channels have activity the scan function does not stop on those active channels. Any idea's where I went wrong?

PS - This program software does not have many options especially concerning the scan function.

If I am not mistaken, I believe you use the (+ and -) keys on the radio to make each channel for scan. You should see an "s" on the display.
You would do this for each channel and then scan will work.
Let me know if that works... Tom/G

Thanks Tom - someone else sent me the users manual in pdf and I was able to figure it out. Strange you can not access the scan list via the program software. Guess i have to get out of the moto state of mind. :)

Yes, but its kinda nice to have the ability to add/remove from the scan list on the fly.
These radios really sound nice also.
They have the typical good GE audio. Very natural sounding........

Does anyone have any experiance replacing the battery pin assembly on these radio pc boards? It sure seems like mission impossible to me without destroying the replacement units.
