Hi, gang,
Now that I've gotten pretty much set up for Motorola stuff, I've decided to start learning GE radios as well. Some things I'd like to know:
(1) Where does one go to get GE parts, service manuals, programming hardware/software, etc.? I seem to recall that GE had a big base in Lynchburg, VA, similar to what the big 'M' has in Schaumburg, but that info is many years old.
(2) What equipment will I need to add to my programming setup to handle CONVENTIONAL GE radios? (I have no interest in trunking). More specifically, will I need a RIB, such as Motorola uses? How about cables?
My eventual goal is to be set up for any of the programmable GE units that us hams would find useful. I already have an excellent discrete device programmer (a Data I/O UniSite) for EPROMs, SPROMs, PALs, etc. I also have a hex editor, and I'm not afraid to use it!
Perhaps most important; How persnickety is GE about programming software and hardware? As bad as Motorola? Worse? Better?
(3) Is there any GE-specific hardware or metering test sets I need to think about adding to my test bench? I already have one of the GE metering boxes from the MASTR and MASTR II era, and I also have a good high-current bench supply and service monitor (Marconi 2955R).
Pointers to other informative web sites would also be welcome. Thanks to all in advance.

Here are a couple of sites that I frequent:
http://www.priceindustries.com for parts...
http://www.radtek.ws
BTW: I'm still learning too, I think I blew up my Orion...

I believe the following site is the most informative GE site there is:
http://www.hallelectronics.com/getech/index.php3
Direct links to programming cable diagrams, model numbers, part numbers... you name it, this site probably has what you need to know.

Some years back GE sold off a good part of its old radio parts to a company not too far from the plant. The company name is:
New London Technologies, located in Forest, VA. tel. 434-525-0068 and their web site is http://www.newlondontech.com
The have all the out of production parts and what ever that may be available. They do feel proud of what they have. On the other hand if you need it, they may be the only place to find it.
