I am interested in finding out more information on the Icom Marine radios that also allow programming of land mobile frequencies. I have identifed the IC-M90 and the IC-M88 and IS version that are capable of this. Does anyone here have any experience with either of these radios? How well do they perform? It it easy to obtain the programming software? Is it capable of semi duplex (repeater) frequencies?

Yes, they can do repeater pairs as well as CTCSS and DCS. As to the performance they work just fine. As to the cable and software, you will need to see if a local ICOM shop could get it for you thru their purchasing.
In my opinion the 88 is to small. The 90 is however right in line with some o Icoms commercial offerings.

My US Coast Guard Auxiliary flotilla is using these radios, because we are authorized to use some special federal frequencies in addition to the marine band.

We use the M-88 and it works well. It does not well when stretched down to the limits of the band ie 144 mhz.

We also like the waterproof feature as we use PWC extensively.
