You remove the mic to put the cloning cable on to clone from the
U-16 or program from the EX-494 programmer. The U-400 is not
programmable on it's own!
So I can get the wider range from 440 to 512 mhz that the radio used to have before it went haywire and I had to clone from a 450 to 486 range radio which restrictricts the frequency range. The U16 has the wider range capabilities.

I don't think the U-400 had a range of 440-512 mhz, it was only
440-485mhz or something similar to that.
