Kenwood TS-440SAT Intermittent 75 meters transmit issues

Post by N7MJ »

I bought my TS-440SAT new nearly 20 years ago. It went through the infamous PLL repair by a certified Kenwood repair tech a little more than 7 years ago.

It developed a new issue on only 75 meters a year or so ago. At times it will not transmit. I can generally get it to finally respond by either tapping on the case or tuning on another band, such as 40 meters, then retuning on 75 meters and tuning again.

It makes not difference what type of antenna I try to load. It does the same thing whether loading on an inverted vee, G5RV, or dummy load.

Any suggestions?

I had one a number of years ago that had problems on 75M. Turned out to be a bad band relay? If you cycled through the bands in a specific direction, it would give problems.
