Kenwood TK-830G & TK-730H power cables and channel mods?

Post by rodnsue »

I have a Kenwood TK-730H (6 pin power plug) and a TK-830G (2 pin power plug)
Anyway, I need complete power cable sets or at least the plugs and pins for them.
I recently found out the power cable for an ICOM IC-706MKIIG radio is the same. I can get that one from Ebay for 12.88 plus 4.90 shipping. The low power 2 pin plug seems to be harder to find.

Also, the TK-730H has a X24C04P (32 channel I think) eeprom installed. To increase to 160 channels, do I just need to change the eeprom to the
X24C16P as well as the eeprom in the control head?

Also, is there a 160 channel mod such as this for the TK-830G?

Lots of questions, few answers:-)

Thanks,
RoD

You are correct on the EEPROMs. Change the head and deck to the 24c16. Same thing works on the 830. You will also need to remove 2 little SMD resistors. 1 from the deck and one from the head in order to program the radio. Do a search here and you will find exactly the info you need. Peter.

Also, remember that the 160 channel model is the full feature head. I think it is limited to 99 ch on the KCH-3 basic head.

Thanks for the help. The biggest problem I have right now is no power cords. I can get by with 32 channel. I don't really need 160 channels anyway.
Does anyone have some used power cords cheap:-) (what else) lol

I'll see whatI can dig up. Do you need any of the 6-pin or the 15-pin molex connectors? I will have some extra's in a few days..

Thanks for the help to all. I ordered a replacement cable for te TK730H from a dealer on Ebay and the TK830G cable from Kendoo.
I was hoping to find both from the same person but...Oh well.

Thanks again,
