TK-5210 Firmware Update?

Post by d119 »

I have a full keypad Kenwood TK-5210 P25 radio, I believe it's a "version 1", not sure what the differences are.

Is there a firmware upgrade available that allows advanced P25 features (ID display, etc.) for this version radio? Anyone know what the upgrade is called?

Whats the difference between a Version 1 and Version 2 radio?

The hardware version 1 radios did the optional DES/AES encryption in software, while the hardware version 2 radios required a hardware module for DES/AES. There may be other minor differences.

The hardware version 1 radios could be keyloaded with the KPG-95DTKL programming software or a KVL3000/KVL3000+ in "CKR mode". I don't think the hardware version 2 radios can be keyloaded via their programming software--you'll need a KVL.

I think KPG-95DTKL version 3.12 is the about the latest programming software for the hardware version 1 radios. KPG-95DK version 5.41 is a pretty recent version for the hardware version 2 radios.

I think all the Kenwood P25 radios should support P25 unit ID display out of the box. It's not an option like it was with Motorola.

If your radio can't do a "cellphone style" signal strength meter, you should gain this feature with a firmware update. Firmware updates are done via the Fpro.exe program that comes with the KPG-95D programming software.

Not true, had one that didn't do IDs.

The updated firmware apparently fixed some of these issues.

So will this firmware update that allows P25 ID's work on a Version 1 radio?

According to what I've been told, yes.

I have ver 1.18 firmware and it adds all of the advanced features except 2 tone encode. If you have a unit with software based DES, or AES then you would want firmware 2.xx for the advanced feature. Some of the features gained are ID display, RSSI indicator, and enhanced scanning. The scan list now can be set up just like most other KW uints, and you can add all 512 channels if you want.

The version 2 radios are FIPS certified, where the rev 1's are not due to the software based encryption.

What's the latest firmware version for TK-5210 VER1 radio?
What's new in 2.xx and 3.xx firmware in comparison with 1.xx firmware?
Anybody have firmware revision history for Kenwood P25 radios?

P.S.
Currently I ran on version 1.19.

Did anyone ever come up with the fix for getting two tone encode on a ver1 radio. I just got one and need to be able to encode with it. I also have a question about read error with kpg-95d when I go to read the radio I get a check connection but I can use tools and read radio information so the com port and cable must be good if I can read radio info. Any help would be great
