TK-2180 - Trunking to Full Conventional?

Post by g8tzl2004 »

I am currently in the process of buying a TK-2180.

I had always assumed that all TK-2180's were "identical" ie. 512 conventional channels etc.

However, I have been doing some searching and discovered that there is an MPT Trunking TK-2180 which only has 32 conventional channels but looks the same as a full featured conventional TK-2180.

If the radio I am buying turns out to be a Trunking model, is it possible to flash full featured 512 channel conventional firmware into the radio...OR is the Trunking feature an optional board..and if you remove the board you get back all the conventional channels?

I almost bought one of those years ago and had the same question. I -think- I recall that they can't be but I'm not 100%.
