MLS II Lo-Band to 6M amateur

Post by mikepdx »

Hello all,

I have a GE MLS II Lo-Band - Model MLSL261 8 chan.
I successfully programmed it with 6M FM amateur freqs,
but it is need of some tuning - it transmits fine, but is very
very very deaf at 50-54 MHz, and VCO wont lock
at the very highest end of the band. - does anyone have a copy
of the manual around and can please take a look for
me and advise on re-peaking/aligning the receiver?
Hams using this model have advised they merely re-programmed
freqs and they were good to go. Evidently this one is tuned
too low.

Side note: Radio receives and transmits fine at original freq 47 MHz
(old highway dept radio - they went 800).

If no-one can do,
I have interest in purchasing a manual if need be, but not sure
where to get one from.

Many thanks!

I have the manual for the MLSL260 that should be similar. I can email you a PDF copy of LBI-31795 alignment procedure pages if you want to send me a private message with your email address.

It should work fine on 6M with a little tweaking of the VCO.

The 260 RX VCO tuning procedure is to monitor TP201 and adjust CV201 for 7.0VDC at the highest receive frequency.

RX front end filters are fixed tuned in the 260 and work OK on 6. I am not sure if there is a difference in the 261.

UPDATE - after I first posted this I found a copy of LBI-38438A for the MLS-II. The VCO adjustment is the same, only the physical component layout is different. The MLS-II also has the fixed tuned front end so the VCO is the only available field adjustment to move the RX up to 6M.
