Kenwood for public safety use

Post by firetech792 »

Which Kenwood portable is the best for public safety use? Mainly firefighting.
I've heard good things about the TK-290 and TK-3180.
Thanks

The x90 series portables and mobiles are the rugged workhorse public safety models. The xx80 series meets a lot of the same specs, however have not been out long enough to have long term testing results.

I know some FD buddies who are using 3180 portables and they didn't like them initially for one reason. The emergency button on the top can be easily pushed with gloves on while manipulating the volume or channel knobs. However, then the shop increased the emergency key delay time and all is well. Now my buds love them and they've had no problems so far.
