Hey guys I am the Asst. Chief of a VFD and we currently upgraded our radios to vertex...We currently have the 180 the 900 and the 3200 mobile . Here is my question , What do I need to program these radios? Will I be able to do it on my laptop running XP?
If you all wouldnt care please specify what cables , software , etc that I am going to need and a good place to get them , thanks Shane

I am not real sure about the 180 and 3200 softwear, but the 900 uses ce39 to program. The cables you will need for the 900 is the vpl-1 and ct-70. I think you can get the vpl-1 with a a USB instead of the 9 pin serial. The ce39 will run in XP just fine.

VX-180 uses CE-44 software and CT-42A cable.
VX-3200 uses CE-52 software and VPL-1 with the RJ-45 attachment.
The VX-900 is as stated above.

We have Vx-160's (similar to the Vx-180) and Vx-3200's. I just successfully read and programmed both using CE-44 / CE-52, on a new Dell Lattitude D510 running XP Pro - no problems......

I have dealt with the Antenna farm and they are pretty good. They even stock some Vertex stuff. This guy did once sold me an incorrect cable. But they have a good return policy.

Another good Vertex dealer is http://www.rfwiz.com They have excellent technical support, and a great website to order parts from.

Vertex has territorial restrictions on new radios, but they can sell parts to anyone.

I have found numerous dealer that sell new radios anywhere , I am in WV and have bought new vertex via the web from FL, and WI, so I dont think vertex watch's too close ( I am glad ) because I can shop around and save the FD money
