I have a couple TK-272g-1 handhelds, one I own and one provided by local volunteer fire department. I found a couple on sale on ebay I bought (I thought) reasonably. When I looked at the model tag I found they are TK-272g-2 radios. I assume the -1 and -2 are significant and am wondering if they will work for my needs or not?
As I understand it the "g" indicates they will work on narrowband -1 is 150-174 and the -2 are 136-150 ?
What did I buy? Kenwood TK-272G-2

I don't know much about 2-way radios but I'm over 50 and can't remember not having one around. Everything from Buddy and Citi-fone to Icom and Kenwood.

The -2 indicates 136-150 bandsplit.
The G-1 is 150-174. The "G' will do narrow band on the existing 15kHz VHF channels but the synthesizer can not do the new FCC 7.5kHz split channels.
