"Long" stereo phone plugs?

Post by KF4SQB »

Has anybody here ever tried to homebrew a cable to program the TK-272? I made one, with RatShack plugs, and the barrel of the plug isn't long enough. I can't read from/write to the radio unless I hold the plugs tightly against the side of the radio. If I let go of them, the rubber gasket around the holes pushes the plugs out far enough that they no longer make proper contact. I checked the length of the barrels of the add-on plugs I used against the plugs on a speaker/mic cable, and the add-on plugs are maybe 3/64" shorter than the factory plugs. Any ideas?

Well Phrawg, that's not a bad idea. However, my chief might get a little upset if I start mutilating the FD's radios! :o
