Here's my assesment vs the /\/\ XTS2.5k / XTS5k, since it seems that this poll wants to compare the two brands. Motorola make great radios and have the $$ to invest creating their own proprietary comunication protocols. They have also set the bar for the standard in digital, trunking, portable radio...

The only the text/label changing keypad programming can alter is the channel name (on newer firmware versions).

As jim202 said. You must power one up and read the display. There are two sets of numbers. The first one is the firmware version of the display head. The second is the radio fw version.

It sounds like a bad switch. Looks like there's a short (moisture?), shielding or grounding problem inside the switch that acts as if the channel selector is being turned when in the B position or C position. I'm pretty sure both the selector and ABC collar are on the same switch body. I doubt that ...

I've never seen any of the adapters have all the pogo-pins (or push-pins) fully populated ...

Nice. I've had flawless results using the generic Prolific Technology USB-to-Serial adapters with the EFJ serial cables that you can buy for about $10. There are TONS of companies using that chip in their cables/adapters.

Do you know what price point the new USB cables are at?
