MODEL STRING DECODE REQUESTS ONLY
It seems like there are a lot of these requests on the EFJ threads. Mr. Bartlett, would it make sense to make a sticky where only model decode requests can be posted, this way it's all in one place? Ongoing questions about the particular model should be a separate post, whose title has the model str...

Re: 51SL antenna question
Well N5CWM, that's pretty funny. Although it would be interesting to see how well a Brickphone antenna would perform and it surely is in the realm of what I was referring to, I believe he needs a few for his crew. Spectre, if the performance with the stock EFJ antenna is inadequate for your team, th...

Re: 51SL antenna question
Maybe I.S. can help shed some personal experience on this one, but in my own opinion, it is very difficult to get an esthetically pleasing "shorty" antenna and get the best performance. I understand the longer antennas can be cumbersome and get in your way, but the shorter ones are not alw...

Re: 51SL antenna question
I'm not sure what band your radio is in, but the antenna is truly important for the radio to operate effectively. Take your time making your choice, as every manufacturer makes multiple operating ranges within each band. The antenna on our EFJs are RP-SMA (Reverse-Polatiry SMA), so any OE Motorola a...

Two words: Thales Liberty

It likely will not do Motorola SN/SZ 3600. But will P25 9600 Trunking!
But this is an EFJ Thread and I will pollute it no more!![;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Re: EF Johnson 5100 questions
There's no reason for a low battery to cause a DSP failure. However a bad/short-circuited battery might cause a problem. The age of the PC should not be a problem, however, EFJ 51xx radios like to run at 115,200bps and slower rate speeds may not work as great. Any computer running at 600Mhz or faste...

Re: EFJ 5100 priority scan
Yeah, I have my Loopback B set to 2.5 and my A to 1 sec and there will always be some noticeable delay due to the progression of the freq scan compounded with the tone decode times. If it were a smartzone system, the priority jump would be instantaneous and voice loss would be more in the ms range. ...

Re: EFJ 5100 priority scan
Is this on a trunked system or conventional channels? If conventional, it sounds like you have to tweak the values for the scanning Loopback A and Loopback B values in the Per System configuration screen for the defined conv object. If the values are too low, then a combination of finding TX activit...

Re: 5100 ? Asend ES
OK. My new portable just arrived. It is a Asend ES portable 800 Mhz Multi-Net. After 3 hours of playing with the software I am baffled. Does anyone have an existing archive for one of these already. Starting from scratch is a PITA, and NO one in my county has one of these. JAS Ehh.. What a piece of...

EFJ 51xx APCO 25
** EDIT: A radio I was working on had Digital reception issues. It turns out a firmware update to the latest was all that was needed. Firmware updates also appear to affect (fix) the IMBE Vocoder bugs (or at least operating parameters). If you experience similar problems, check the firmware version ...
