jump a couple pads
put it back together
also reworked the stupid setup for the speaker

i have tried to get my tk-278 into programing mode by pressing the light and dial buttons while turning the radio on but it does not go on to the next step is there something i am doing wrong

i got it about 10 years ago i have been searching online found a page that lays it out but for some reason its not working
first step press and hold the light and dial keys while turning on the radio hold until SEL appears in the display but that never happens no matter how long i hold it
just thought i would try the bb for help

Have you tried to read/write the radio with software?

They are for different models, but it should point you in the right direction. There is more than one reference to diode 17 (D17), so that may be your answer. They are also using different button combinations as well.

If you hold the light button at the same time as turning the channel knob, it will step in MHz increments.
