While trying to write to my Tk-280 an error pops up saying "Fleetsync not enabled" and the write process ends. I have read the radio and know that my computer and cable setup is good.
I am not that familiar with kenwoods, this is first 280 I have owned/programmed. What am I missing?
also is there any kenwood dealers on the web that are recommended? I would like to purchase the windows version of KPG-49D and my local "dealer" is A.useless, and B. will not sell software to customers.

There are two possible problems:
First, there are two versions of this radio..a version 1 radio and a version 2.0 radio. Take the battery off and check the model nameplate. If it is a version 2.0, it will say "Ver 2.0." If not, than it's a version 1 radio. Kenwood changed the microprocessor halfway through the model run to accomodate "Enhanced Fleetsync" (IE text messaging, caller ID, etc.)
If you have old DOS software and it's an early version, it may abort if you are trying to program a version 2.0 radio.
Even assuming you have the latest programming software, it will still give an error if you enable an option that requires Fleetsync (like PTT ID), but say..you didn't program a Fleetsync ID number into the unit (IE programming conflict).

Asking for it, posting locations for it, giving it to others through this board is a violation of the rules.
You will just be kicked off, and quite possibly, have your whole subnet banned.

I don't know much about 2-way radios but I'm over 50 and can't remember not having one around. Everything from Buddy and Citi-fone to Icom and Kenwood.
But is it a violation of the rules to ask where to buy legitimate copies of software? I was under the impression he was asking for a Kenwood dealer that would sell him a legitimately licensed copy.
As far as I know, Kenwood USA doesn't explicitly prohibit selling software to individual users, providing it is a legitimate copy purchased from a legitimate Kenwood dealer.

If you need it, you order it. enough said! no multi page license agreements, no blood samples, no first born child, only to then use the magic 8 ball to determine if they will actually sell it to you.
