S825 Programming Problem !

Post by k6sjh »

I just acquired my first GE Ranger UHF with an S820 Scan head. I have a Price Industries RIB and S825 Cable. The RIB works with my MPA, but I can connect with the S820 head. I am using an old 286 Laptop with DOS, with which I've programmed MPA, X9000, Maxtrac, and Midland, etc, without a problem. I have taken the S825 cable apart and checked the connections. Powered the radio off and back on.

Are there different versions of RSS like Motorola?

The radio is fully functional on it's presently programmed frequencies and works great in that respect. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
John

you need "S825" programming software to program the head. after the head is programmed, it sends the personality to your rangr (a jumper has to be set properly in the radio to accept the personality).

are you trying to read the head with rangr software?

Yes, I am using S825 software and trying to read the radio only. When I change "Modes" on the control head, it downloads to the radio now.

I am having the same problem you were having, I have a VHF Rangr with the 8825 Control Head. I am using the Price Industries P96A Rib with the S825 Cable. I have programed PCS Radio's without a problem, but I can't even read the current personality on the S825. If you find anything out please Let me know. Thanks. MJT :eeek:

The problem has been solved. It was as easy as hanging up the microphone to get it out of the "Monitor" mode and into the "Programming" mode. Thanks Ken !!

MJT, look at the head read out and make sure you have programming in the window, and not Monitor. :D

Is there anything you need to do to put the S825 into programming mode?

The other thing is that I am powering the unit via the microphone jack, and when I do so the TX light comes on. Is this normal when supplying the power though J4?

And Im working with 19D901146G9 REV D

Thanks,
MJT

You should be powering it from J1 (power & ignition connector) just like it would normally be powered in a vehicle. If you leave the mic connected to J4 (mic connector) it must be hung up in a clip. You may just disconnect the mic to get around this. I always disconnect the control cable to the RANGR as well. There is NO process to put it into "programming" mode. If you are connected up properly, the 825 will show "PROGRAM" on the display. If you see "MONITOR" on the display, it means you have not hung up your mic.

You should get LBI-38244F from http://www.radtek.ws (it's in PDF form) or I could just e-mail it to you.

Give me a PM if you like.
