This is driving me nuts. I took a good 16 plus 800 front controller and mated it up with a VHF RF board. I got everything working except I cant figure out how to make this thing do keypad DTMF dialing.

MPD help cant get DTMF to work
Chris,
Do you mean by pressing a DTMF key and having the radio send the tones as you press the keys ?
If so the radio does not work this way, you can either enter a fixed phone list in the programming software then use the Memory location of the desired number and do a FNC-RCL-N (where N is 0 thru 9 corresponding to the phone numbers memory location) to bring the number up from memory then you need to do a FNC-SEND to send the tones.
A 2nd method is to key in the phone number from the keypad and then you must press FNC-SEND and the tones are sent out.
When you do this the LCD display will show the numbers entered, if you make a mistake with the number you need to enter FNC-CLR to clear the mistaken entry from the display and enter in the correct phone number.
I hope this is what you were looking for.

Mike,
The second one I put together the same way operates like this.
punch some digits on the pad than hit PTT to send them out. I think the
label on that controller said copyright 1988. I think the other one said 1986 so mabey it's a software issue, thay both have the same codedplug. I am going to see if I have a nother '88 controller and see what happens.

I did somthing like that as well and really botched it up, actualy my once MPD 16 plus went from UHF to picking up mysteriously 800 freqs from 50 miles away. I guess you never know when amatuer radio techs go at it.. Actualy does anybody knowhow this is even possible, becuse with my knowledge i dont think it is.??????????
