MRK programming issues/homebrew rib

Post by willbartlett »

Hey All. I have been attempting to program an MRK-II conventional using the dos edacs-3 conv1 program. I have engineered a rib using a rs-232-ttl converter, and have successfully read and written tracking data but when attempting to write personality data to the radio, I recieve a transmit-protocol [8] error.

I have looked at the DTR line on the computer end and it doesn't swing to indicate that the program wants to enable a flash voltage, but I don't have a pull down resistor on it, so My observation may be faulty. I don't know if the flash write cycle is part of the personality load. I did notice that the write detail screen has a radio code segment, is this written in a flash format?

Anyone with a price rib notice if the "flash" led lights during a non flashcode write? I'd like to figure this out, but I'm a little stumped. Don't tell me to just go buy a price rib, I'll build a clone myself before anything else :D

Thanks, Will

OK, Using ProGrammer 13, I get an error writing fixed personality error message. I do now know that there is activity on the flash voltage line wether I read or attempt to write to the radio. I will build the flash cuircutry and see what happens. I have updated my design to include all the relavant cuircutry, Hex inverter, full duplex rs232-ttl chip, etc. I guess I'm making a full copy of the price box after all. At least I'll be able to flash MPA's again if nothing else.

OK, I figured it out. Never use your oldest serial cable when attempting to trouble shoot. Long and short of it, yes the MRK needs the flash voltage whenever I write a personality. In any case, I also figured out the "special" bandsplit resistor value. I'm going to start a new topic with the info so all can see it under the appropriate topic.
