Hey all, I have sucessfully built a programmer using a MAX232 chip and one of the many availble schematics for the 30 series mobiles. If given the proper connector and software, will this circuit also program the 80 series portibles?

The cable with modular plug will program all those mobile radios with modular mic jacks. This inludes the 30 series, 40 series, 60 series, and 80 series mobiles. It will NOT program the 20 series since those require an EEPROM burner.

The 6 pin plug will fit in the 8 pin socket and program the radios just fine. I built a KPG4 with a 6 pin and used it on a TK860 with the 8 pin socket and it worked just fine.

Boy, some people don't pay very good attention. The question was about the 80 series portable, not the mobile. When was the last time you saw a portable radio with a modular (RJ45) mic plug?
Anyway, to answer the question, yes, it should handle it with the proper adapter. If it programs through a set of "phone plugs", like the TK250 for instance, the standard phone plugs avalible at RatShack won't work very well, as they are too short.
