GE M-PD 800MHz ID

Post by 2wayfreq »

Hi all,
Wanted to ID this dinosaur and see if its worth the trouble.

Its a GE M-PD 800 FCC-AXA9WNTR-147-A2

19B801502P-13

I tried the P-96 on it but it wont respond. I had hit MODE and 4 and now it flashes BLANK on the screen and emits a constant beeping. I get the feeling its a suitcase programmed type and not worth it. Can anyone confirm?. Also, is there a keypad sequence to look at the firwmare rev. or other info? thanks.

I cannot locate any reference to the P13 model anywhere....Let alone anything about how to get the thing to display firmware versions. I have access to the LBI-38125A M-PD 16-Plus Service Section. Doesn't cover any of that stuff.

You may have to go ask this one over at the Yahoo Group "GE"

I would be interested in that radio if you wanted to part with it (looking for a parts radio)

HI N_Zero,

Thanks for the reply. :).

Update: I managed to read the radio with DOS 2.0 conventional programmer. Its an 8 channel scan capable 806-870. It recieves nicely. New problem though, the keypad is in some sort of "Locked" mode and I cannot unlock that. is there a key sequence or something in the settings? Thanks :)

Here is what I found from the vhf service manual:

Pressing SECONDARY FUNCTION & KEY BD in sequence activates the keypad.

Doesn't mean much to me, but maybe that helps you.

Unlocking an EDACS MPA keypad is hitting the blue 2nd button & then the blue side button above the PTT......

I know this is a very old post but I don't read these messages that often. If you read the radio again and when you are at the 8th channel press the PAGE DOWN key on your PC keyboard and you may find that you have more than 8 channels in that radio. Try pressing PAGE DOWN after filling in the next group of 8 channels each time and you should find more channels to fill in.

Thanks mike, Looks like 4 modes of 12 channels. Has space for 16 but wont let me go past 12.

The MPD did come in the 800 meg EDACS flavor... I think it was the 1st
EDACS capable walkie they made. Referred to as "16 Plus" back then
instead of EDACS.

There is one on FleaBay right now (search seller: billy_gilley)

Yeah,
Sorry about that I edited my last post with some new info. This one seems to me conventional only. It will be ok for Murrieta PD (2 conv. 800 channels) and 800 clemars. It was free from a friend. I have an M-RK 800 anyway for out here.

yup, if you can read that MPD with conv 2.0 it is definately not EDACS capable.
