EFJ RIB/programming question

Post by kk6rq »

So the last time I used my 023-9750-000 several years ago it worked;
I can't remember if there was something special you need to do to make
it work, like maybe putting +12 to the light blue wire maybe?

My buddy reckons it'll work on 9842's as well as the 85xx/86xx series.
FWIW, the led is lit on the box. The com port is set correctly. I cleaned
all the pins on the cable. HELP!!!

tnx

There's a new RPI that has to be used with the new series radios.
EFJ Part # 023-9800-000
It's backward compatible to the 86xx and Challenger series.

I know of no way to make the radio work on the old box.
Good luck.

EDIT: Hmmm, after closer examination of the service manual, it says that "To perform the standard personality programming described in most of this section, earlier RPI's such as Part # 023-5810-000 or 023-9750-000 can be used."
Now I'm not sure what to say.

I'm guessing that you are using the correct software?

EFJ P/N 023-9998-414 "personality programming software"
023-9998-432 "flash programming software"
023-9998-416 "radio tuning software"

Hope this helps

Solved!

Sorry, I figured it out; just haven't had a chance to post. It seems
the laptop I was using has a bad serial port. Put it on the desktop
and problem solved. Thanks for taking the time to help diagnose.

Now I wish I had one of its digital cousins to play with...
