I have70-0351C XTR Midland which is the upper end VHF low model. WIll it do 6 meters and are there any steps, beside a retune such a software issues ( will it let it go into the 50-54MHZ range ? ) or mods I need to make. Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to:
edit the software to allow 6 meter operation
reset both VCO's
tweak the RX&TX stages for optimum perfomance

Thanks Andy... I found out where the software band limitations are stored, that need to be edited. They are in a file called XTR.CHL
Open the file after saving a back-up copy somwhere, and use a Text or ASCII editor... I used Microsofts notepad for this one and you will see the different splits for all the band. Make your change and it will allow for entry.
As with any radio a check for tuning resulted in a slight adjustment....
and it seems that 4-6MHZ from the original values can be handled with no problem. Above that it may be an issue.

If the radio is originally tuned on the high side of the 42-50 split you will be ok, but for optimum performance the receive side will need some tweaking.
From my experence you can cover from ~46-54 mhz with no problem.
