Hello, I know this has been talked about before on here but I am looking for a more specific answer. I just bought a Vertex VX600 and I am thinking of buying an aftermarket MDC1200 chip for it. I currently have the DOS version of programing software, and being that the chip will come preprgramed with my ID# I was wondering if it can be enabled with the DOS software or do you just install it and it works or do I have to get the window based software to enable it.

Thanks in advance

 If I rember correctly, you may need the windows software. I know with the vx900, you need current firmware to use the encode/decode board, but do beleive you can encode with older firmware.
