Leaky caps strike again.

I have another TK-830 here that would lose the display right after turn on. The back light would stay on but nothing was there. I went right into the control head (KCH-4) and pulled off the surface mount 22uf 16volt electrolytic. (C-29 on the KCH-4, C-30 on the KCH-3). Sure enough it had leaked and eaten away the trace underneath. Repair the trace and put in a new cap and back in business. Looking at the cap while it was still mounted on the board I saw no signs of leakage. I suspect that more and more of these will be failing in the future and techs should look there first in cases of control head troubles. PL.
