Hello all im new to the forum. I'm a firefighter from WV and just purchased a Kenwood TK-709 mobile radio. I got everything to work fine, but I can't seem to get teh scanning programming right. I want it to scan with the channel that it is on being the priority channel, and to be the channel it broadcasts on when I key up the mic. Say, if I were on channel 3 and hit scan, 3 would be the priority. If i were on 2, 2 would be the priority, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under "scan options," set "Priority Channel" to "selected." Select "revert" to "Priority." That should make it function as you describe.

Ok I just opened the program kpg-20d and it doesn't have an option where you can select "selected" as priority channel. Under priority channel it gives me the option of 1 through 250 or off. Under that is preference channel with the same parameters. I finally programmed it to where when I"m on channel 3 and scanning, when I key up it keys up on channel 3...but with that same priority scan, channel 1 takes priority as far as incoming traffic. LOL, clear as mud?

Hmm, that's a pretty early radio. I'll have to check the software at the shop. I don't have anything for the TK-709, but I have software for the TK-705....the same chassis and probably similar features. I know the TK-705 is very basic in terms of what it will do for scanning. I'm thinking that the option choices may be limited.

I'll take a peek when I'm back in the shop in Monday and see what the scan options are on the TK-705.

Thanks. I think I just about got everything set up. I don't believe it has the option to priority scan on the selected channel, however I did figure out how to get it to key up on the selected channel when scanning.

I checked out the KPG-20 software today, and you're right. The scan options are limited. You can define a priority channel, and you can define a "preferred channel" for the radio to go back to when you press PTT during scan, but that's it.

Yeah pretty much. You can only select one channel to revert to instead of whatever channel you're on. I guess it's an old radio and i just need to upgrade. Thanks for looking into it!
