I have the KPG-5D software and a KPG-4 programing cable but I have been told the radio needs to be in the program mode. I have tried holding all the buttons on power up but I can't get the radio to go into program mode. With just the software and the cable pluged into the radio I get a comunication error that says to check cable connection.

I forget what keys need to be held down... Did you try F1, help file?

Yes I did. I may not have a full version of the software. When I tried to use the help file it just says file not found. There is a 15 pin plug in the back of the radio. I was wondering if I needed to do some type of jumper there? Does this ring any bells? Thanks Robert

You need to have the radio in program mode, don't remember exactly how but it's not hard. As far as the help goes, first start the program then in one of the right hand pull down menus there is an item called "help path"...use that item to tell it what directory on the computer the help file is in...should be the same as the program most likely...then you'll get the help at least

Getting the radios into program mode has been the problem the whole time. Everyone I talk to about this says I need them in program mode but no one can tell me how to get there. I have tried all combinations of holding buttons down on power up but no luck. Whats next? Any ideas?
Thanks Robert

Copied from elsewhere.... Hold the "A" key for 2-3 seconds while turning on the radio. On the alpha-numeric head it will say PROGRAM after releasing the "A" key. On the non-alpha head the display will have a pair of dashes [- -] . You should now be able to read and write to the radio..

OK I think we go it. I thought I had an alpha-numeric display but I guess I don't. I have the 2 dashes. Now I need to get the connection problem worked out and I home free. Thanks for all the help everyone! Robert
