I have a tk-730hg-1 and have a couple of questions.

Does the 730HG use the same kpg7D software? I assume I use the W/N frequency ranges?

Will a 32 channel basic head work on a radio with a 99 channel chip in the RF deck? I have the 730HG and a 32 basic head. I have tried to program the radio but no matter what freq I program in the head just blinks when the radio is turned on. I can also change channels, although only programmed 1 channel I can go to channel 33, 54, 98.

Thanks.

The TK-730 HG uses the same KPG7D software. You will need to select the model number or wide/narrow under "model setup" when you write the personality. Under "Model Setup," it will ask you for bandsplit, model, and number of channels. Some early versions of KPG7D didn't include the option for narrow band, since they were written before the G series was manufactured. If the version you have includes provisions for the G radio and narrow-band, you should be good.

You will need to have the same chip in both the radio and the head, so you will either have to change the chip in the head to a 16K serial EEPROM (X24C016) or change the one in the radio back to a 4K EEPROM (X24C04).

If I remember right, there's a chip jumper that needs to be moved both in the radio and in the head when the 16K EEPROM is used, so you will have to set that appropriately (I have the setup procedure here in my notes somewhere).

If you have the basic head(non alpha) it will work with the 99 channel chip in the radio. When you install the 99 ch IC, you need to remove a resistor, but only in the deck. There is a spot in the basic head to solder in an IC(same as the 99 ch IC),this will give you a 2 letter alpha display(pretty useless!) Unless ,unless you want F1,F2,F3,etc.
