Yaesu Ft840 Power

Post by jeff4570 »

Im using a Bird model 43 wattmeter with a 25-50mhz slug , can I use it at all between 3-20mhz ?? I get a SIGNIFICANT loss of power on the low freq and Im wondering if its my rig or just the wattmeter.

I get 15 watts on 80m , 30watts on 40 , 75 watts on 15 and 100 watts on 20 and above.

That is the reason the slug is designated for 25-50MHz. The reading will be increasingly low in proportion to the frequency when used below the
design range. Bird elements are made for specific frequency and power ranges to maintain accurate calibration.

From what you describe, your rig probably has an actual 100W output on all bands. You need the 2-30MHz element for accurate readings on the HF bands.
