TK-250(G) wrong type ?

When using KPG-23D ver2.02 and I try to read the radio it gives me a error message that the radio is the wrong type. I can write to the radio if I ignore the wrong type message but can not read. Any ideas? Also even though I have no decode squelch type set I can not recieve a signal unless I hold down the mon button.
