The Radio Information Board

I am having an issue programming some 3140's. I can not get the software (KPG74D v1.11) to recognize the radio. I continually get a check connection error. Is there some key sequence that must be hit to put the radio into programming mode? The radios are v1.00.

I am using the cable from Kenwood with a USB to serial adapter on Vista, running the software in Win XP compatibility mode with admin rights. I should note the software recognizes the adapter.

Any solutions to this problem would be helpful.
