I have a few questions. I need to know what type of software to get. I will need to program EDACS and Conventional channels. What is the DOS version of this software? Do you need a system key to program in EDACS systems like Motorola requires? Is therea 'LAB' type software available for this radio? Thank you for your time,
Scott

Re: Programming Orion VHF
EDACS software will always let you do conventional as well. The DOS software for Orion is called "EDACS3". The Windows software is called "ProGrammer" (latest rev on ProGrammer is R10A). Both of these software titles were available for "conventional only' radios as well.rescue161 wrote:I will need to program EDACS and Conventional channels. What is the DOS version of this software? You don't need a system key - just need a valid LID. Also need to know the channel freqs in logical order & the system's Agency, Fleet & Subfleet structure. Personalities are a pain to build

LAB software??? Like to tell a radio it is 128 sys/grp instead of the average 16 sys/grp?
NOPE! - Gotta pay for stuff like that (it's called the feature data string)
Feel free to PM if you need more info...

EDACS - Every Day Another Customer Screams
I am wanting to use my personal radio to monitor our talk group. So if I read one of the radios at work and copy all of the info to mine, then I would be able to do it? What exactly is a LID? Sorry, all of this EDACS stuff is new to me. I mostly do Motorola and we just got several EDACS radios at work to try out. They are working ok, but I can't monitor my guys on the EDACS channels. Thank you again for your help.

Hey, it was all new to me once as well. "LID" is the logical ID. It's how the EDACS system recognizes each individual radio. The best way to do what you are talking about is pick the work radio assigned to you, read it, then program your personal radio with that same personality & LID. I have 3 radios programmed with the same LID & it works fine.rescue161 wrote:I am wanting to use my personal radio to monitor our talk group. Are you using 'Programmer' or EDACS 3? I am looking at EDACS 3, but it's more confusing than Motorola RSS...lol
Maybe, I've just gotten used to M, 'cause it was confusing at one time. The only manual I have is the user manual, and it isn't helping me at all.
How far out of band will one of these radios go? I have a VHF low 136-151. I would love for it to go up to around 159, but that may be pushing it. Thank you again,
Scott

I am using ProGrammer (I'm a lazy pointer-n-clicker). I hear you can program the Orion out-of-band but have never tried it myself (Control+E trick - instead of just Enter). I think this is true only for the "conventional only" Orion software. This may not work at all in EDACS3. I cannot verify that point. I can't tell you how far it will go out-of-band, either.
Definately no out-of-banding with ProGrammer...
