Lowband Orion Questions

Post by 2wayguru »

I was looking at a lowband orion on ebay and it states in the discription that the radio has an error code of 0500. I was wondering what that means? Also I purchased a orion lowband 29-42MHz and was wondering if I can squeeze 46MHz in to and and where I can get the software. I have most software for the ericsson radios but this is the only one I do not have... Any help would be apriciated.....

ERROR CODE - 0500
=============
this quote comes fron another group:

to LBI-38908B, that is ;

"Operational Software Fatal System Error - PI_NOPERS_ERROR
Personality data is not present. Program the personality"

Sounds like it lost it's mind. Try reprogramming it. After that, it's
$375 to send it to Lynchburg.
==============

Getting the 29-42 meg Orion to work at 46 meg will probably be a stretch.
I hear it will go a few meg O-O-B, but may require VCO tuning. The worst part is this... O-O-B programming can only be accomplished by hex editor.
There is no other way I know of doing it (except for some highly secure super duper covert software back home in Lynchburg VA)... Several folks are currently working on this situation, but details a sketchy at best.

Software can be found here:

Good luck

I dont have a problem tuning the vco I was looking forward to doing it anyway. I have been able to make a good personality in my dos vesion but the problem that I have is that the programming cable I built from hall electronics seems not to work right. I wonder if anyone has a better schematic on the programming cable? Thanks for the advice...

Greg... the schematic on Hall's site is for the factory cable that requires use of the TQ3370 RIB. Only alternative I know of is the ribless cable that Price Industries sells for $65 (the R30C).

Good luck trying to get that 29-42 meg split ORION to accept your personality with the 46 meg freqs! It won't even accept 42.005 (I have tried it already). Can't seem to find any info on how to get out-of-band except that "IT CAN BE DONE". Hex editing seems to be the trick, but I have no idea what addresses need to be changed, etc.

Good luck, Ken
