Strange GE Voice Guard question

Post by motgeradios »

I have some GE MPD Voice guard DES portables and a couple motorola DES radios. Can I use the same key variable loader on the two brands of radios if I build the correct cables? Is it true that the MPD Voce guard is setup through software or a KVL unit? If I enter the same key into the GE and motorolas will they talk ok? It's a little bit off the wall but no radio collection would be complete without weird toys. Thanks for your thoughts.

The GE's use a keyloader. looks like a black calculator. I know there was a GE MPD Voiceguard program, but I don't believe you could program the key but it was just for the diffirent versions. Someone who is more knowledgeable about the MPD line may have more input. I don't believe you will be able to use a single keyloader for the two lines of radios.

1 Adam 12 is correct; the VG RSS only programmed the normal fare - freqs, CG, etc. Then you needed the keyloader to input your encryption keys. Keep your eye on ebay, as they pop up there ocassionaly, and will go for a couple hundred bucks.
