MPA Hamflash questions???

Post by 10-95 »

I have the hamflash program, the proper cable and flash box. My question concerns some MPA scan units I want to flash, will I need to replace the limited key front membrane and cover with the full keypad membrane before flashing or can I do the pr0ogramming form the limited keypad after I flash it???

Thanks,
Frank

Keypad and Hampflash programming

Post by PlagueOfRats »

Yes, you'll need that "system" model flex pad to program your freq's and whatnot. But you're in luck; you can just purchase the keyflex and new front bezel and slap 'em on your "scan" model units and they'll be "system" models. I've done this to a few MP-As I owned. (You can even do this for non-Hamflashed radios - just reprogram as system models aftwards).

Also if you can't wait for your DTMF keypads to arrive just remove the front scan escutchion( plastic cover over keypad) and go ahead and hamflash the radio.

Next use a conductive tool (screwdriver etc) to short the conductive finger contacts thru the holes in the front cover assembly, this will allow you to at least set up the radio, but remember that if you put the old scan escutchion back on you will only have access to whatever 16 channel bank the radio is in.

When programming the radios setup and channel information with the conductive tool method just try not to hit the metal side of the holes in the radio front cover when pushing the tool thru the holes otherwise you'll need to start over with the programming, shorting to the sides will not damage the radio in any way but it does mess up the data entry for whatever you were trying to program but not the entire programming per se. Even some shrink tubing or any other insulated material such as tape over your conductive tool will keep it from shorting to the front cover and allow you to program the radio until you get some keypads.

Iv'e done some 900 MTLs and 220 MPAs that were hamflashed this way while waiting for my dtmf keypads to arrive. it at least let me use the radios on 16 channels.

I got some from a place in Olympia, WA, called Pacific Electronics. For the life of me I can't find a receipt with their number on it now. But information could give it to you. The part #s are;

rubber: 19D902264P10
front cover: 19D438668P29
